“I don’t like my new look,” Shirley said. So many things about the cancer experience are very tough, many of us agree. In fact, cancer has mauled mpst of us in some way, even if we haven’t had it ourselves. What we come to look like on the outside – even needing to wear a wig to Cardiff to watch the Sprinboks play Wales – doesn’t hint at what has happened and is happening on the inside. There, if Jesus is in control, superbly wonderful things happen! A very dear friend has just finished 6 months of chemo. In victory they rang a bell and clapped for her as they removed the last drip. In victory Shirley finished her race. And in victory we carry on too.
